What it involves
Clearing the accumulated undergrowth, weed and regrowth along the base of a shelterbelt so the belt keeps functioning and stops harbouring pest plants.
Why it has not been done
A shelterbelt base collects everything: blackberry, pampas, privet seedlings and whatever the birds bring in. It is a narrow strip, usually with a fence on one side and a crop on the other, which makes it awkward for large plant and a bad candidate for spraying.
How we do it
We mulch the strip mechanically with machines that get in from 1.4m, handling woody growth to 200mm to 300mm. No chemical means no drift risk to an adjacent crop and no withholding period to manage.
