Forestry mulching processes standing vegetation into the ground layer where it grows, rather than felling, extracting and disposing of it separately. On plantation and wilding country, that removes most of the cost and most of the logistics.
Our machines handle material from 200mm to 300mm on slopes up to 55 degrees, remote-controlled so the operator is never on the face. Nothing is carted out and nothing is burned.
Where forestry mulching earns its keep
Undergrowth clearing for access and assessment, inter-rotation regrowth, firebreak creation and maintenance, boundary and access track clearing, and wilding conifer control on and beyond plantation edges.
The economics on wilding conifers in particular are worth understanding early: a seedling is cheap to deal with and a ten-year-old tree is not. The right time to call is usually sooner than people think.
The terminology, briefly
Forestry mulching, forest mulching and mulching-in-place all describe the same operation: a mobile machine that reduces standing vegetation to a mulch layer without anything being cut by hand or removed from the site.
It is different from chipping, which is a static machine that processes material you have already cut and carried to it. If you have a hillside, you want mulching. If you have a pile of branches, you want a chipper.
What people say
The team at Grazer provides the best service I have experienced over 16 years of bank maintenance with long reach mowers, 4-wheel-drive movers, and now Grazer. They provide a fast and high quality result, prompt response to requests for change in service schedule, and great customer care.
Andrew · Tauranga
Grazer sorted out our very steep, heavily overgrown blackberry bank. We were sceptical, but once the team got started it was clear that Grazer was the best tool for the job. The team's manner and prompt timing were key to a smooth process. We highly recommend the Grazer for those hard to reach places.
Dan · Whakamarama, Tauranga
Dan did an amazing job at our property. He was professional and communication was excellent. We will certainly have him and his team back again.
Wicked Machine Works
Dan has been excellent throughout the project, his communications and planning were forthcoming; the mulching work done is fantastic. Good care was taken for the land and surrounds. Highly recommended.

Can you work on steep plantation country?
What we clear
- Wilding pinesA national problem at landscape scale. Catch them small and it is a mulching job; leave them and it becomes a forestry operation.
- GorseThe big one. Dense, spiny, seeds for decades, and it takes hold on exactly the slopes a tractor cannot work.
- BroomGorse's close relative without the spines. Same long-lived seed bank, same habit of taking over steep and stony ground.
Who we do this for
- ForestryUndergrowth, inter-rotation regrowth, boundaries and firebreaks on steep plantation country.
- Conservation and restorationClearing pest plants off a site so it can be planted, without chemicals and without losing what is worth keeping.
- Civil contractorsThe batter, the corridor and the bit of the site your plant cannot safely get onto.
