What section clearing costs, and where the savings actually are
The big saving is not the clearing rate. It is not paying to truck the material away.

The honest answer
For an overgrown residential or lifestyle section, the cost difference between mulching and traditional cut-and-cart clearing is usually not in the clearing itself, it is in what happens to the material. Mulching leaves it on site as a layer, so there is no heaping, loading, trucking or disposal. On a section with real volume on it, that is often the majority of the quote you were expecting. GRazer estimate most jobs from Google Maps, photos and the property address, which means you can get an initial number without anyone driving out. For larger, more complex or high-value projects they may recommend a site visit to confirm scope before work starts.
What actually drives the number
Access to the section
The most common complication on a residential section. Machines get in from as little as 1.4m entry width, but the route past the house, the gate and any services need checking. Photograph the entrance.
Density and material size
Head-high blackberry is different from established gorse with woody stems. Both are handled, but they process at different rates.
Slope within the section
Gullies and steep boundaries within a section are included rather than excluded, since the machines work to 55 degrees. That often removes the awkward exclusion other quotes carry.
Hidden material
Old fencing, rubbish, car bodies, concrete and stumps turn up regularly under long-neglected sections. Anything you know about is worth flagging.
Required finish
Clearing so the section can be seen and valued is faster than a fine finish ready for building or planting.
How to keep the cost down
- Compare quotes on a like-for-like basis, check whether cartage and disposal are included in the other numbers
- Photograph the access, not just the vegetation
- Flag anything buried or hidden that you know about
- Clear the whole section in one visit
- Say what the land is for next, it changes the finish required
What is included that is easy to miss
- No green waste removal, the single biggest saving
- Steep boundaries and gullies within the section included
- No burning and no chemicals
- Site walkable and assessable the same day
