The three certifications matter for different reasons. SHE Pre-Qual and IMPAC are contractor prequalification schemes that principals use to check safety systems before letting a contractor on site. Tōtika is the shared prequalification standard used across a large part of the New Zealand construction and infrastructure sector. Holding all three together is what gets a contractor onto council and civil work, and it is unusual in this category, the nearest comparable operator holds one of them.

Beyond the paperwork, safety is a practical part of how the work is done. Before work begins, site conditions are assessed, potential risks identified and practical controls implemented so the job is completed safely and efficiently.

The machines themselves are a safety control. Because they are remote-controlled, the operator is not on the slope, not in the cab and not in the traffic envelope on a roadside job. On steep and unstable ground that removes the most serious hazard rather than managing it.
