Can you safely mow steep slopes?
Yes. GRazer's specialist remote-control flail mower is purpose-built for steep terrain and can safely operate on slopes up to 55 degrees. This allows batters, terraces, hillsides and difficult terrain to be maintained where conventional mowing equipment cannot safely access.
The safety case rests on the operator not being on the machine. Slope mowing injuries and deaths in New Zealand overwhelmingly involve someone on a tractor, a ride-on or an ATV on ground that turned out to be steeper, softer or more uneven than it looked. A remote-controlled machine removes the person from that equation entirely.
It also changes what gets maintained. Batters, terraces, dam walls and stormwater basin sides are deliberately built at angles conventional mowers cannot take, so they get skipped year after year until the vegetation becomes a compliance or safety problem in itself.
Before starting on any site, conditions are assessed, potential risks identified and practical controls put in place. On slopes that assessment covers ground moisture, surface stability, what is hidden under the growth and where the machine can be safely recovered from.
One to two dry days beforehand are generally preferred, for access, safety and productivity.
